Pathfinders Legacy

Their stories, kept for good.

For three years, Pathfinders has gathered the stories of the men and women who came to Britain from the Caribbean between 1939 and 1971: the wartime heroes, the nurses, the builders, the churchgoers in their Sunday best, the pioneers who went ahead so others could follow. Pathfinders Legacy brings those stories home.

Opening this Black History Month, Legacy is an interactive, museum-ready archive installed at Brookfield Life Development Centre in Birmingham. Portraits, recorded testimony and personal exhibits sit side by side, so visitors can see the faces, hear the voices and explore the lives behind them.

A new work by Norman Bailey FRSA

Legacy is the third chapter of Pathfinders, following A Hero’s Welcome in Clapham and Sunday Best at the RBSA Gallery, Birmingham. Each has been built with the elders whose stories it tells, and with a new generation of young volunteers, our Pathfinders of the future.
